Michelle Obama is an American attorney and author who served as the First Lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017. She was the first African-American woman to serve in this position.
On March 16th 2021 Michelle Obama launched her own Netflix show Waffles and Mochi. She has described it as “…all about good food: discovering it, cooking it, and of course, eating it. These two will take us on adventures all around the world to explore new ingredients and try out new recipes.”
As First Lady healthy eating for children was a focus for Michelle Obama. In 2010, she launched Let’s Move!, a campaign bringing together community leaders, educators, medical professionals, parents, and others in a nationwide effort to address the challenge of childhood obesity. Through providing healthier food in schools, helping kids be more physically active, or urging companies to market healthier foods to children, Michelle Obama focused on giving parents the support they need to make healthier choices for their kids.

A song was released to promote the campaign called Let’s Move! Flash Workout. The song was by Beyoncé and Swizz Beatz, and the video was filmed in a school cafeteria where Beyoncé was dancing with children.
Chefs Move to Schools was also founded in May 2010 as part of Michelle Obama’s campaign. This program was an effort to teach culinary skills to school children and to get them to try new, healthful food options. Professional chefs volunteer a specified amount of their time to cook with students and/or to help train school workers in how to prepare and provide food more healthily.
Michelle Obama also launched MyPlate and MiPlato, an easy-to-understand icon to help parents make healthier choices for their families. More than 6,100 community groups and 100 national organizations and corporations partnered with the USDA to give families across the country access to this important nutritional information.
Michelle explained that her new Netflix show “In many ways, is an extension of my work to support children’s health as First Lady—and to be quite honest, I wish a program like this had been around when my girls were young. I also know that this is a difficult time for so many families, and I’m hopeful that this delightful show can bring a bit of light and laughter to homes around the world.”
